The Hani people in Xiding town,Menghai County were celebrating their gatangpa festival.

Identified as "Aka" among the ethnic people, Hani ethnic group is one of the minorities in Xishuangbanna with a population of 170,0000 approximately, 25% of the total in the prefecture. The Hani people has their own spoken language but no written form.
They are mainly distributed in Gelanghe, Xiding, Jingha and other mountainous areas in the prefecture, their houses similar to the Dais'. Their favorite drink is tea with a long history of tea planting over the past hundreds of years. They are followers of polytheism according to which natural objects, animals and plants are believed to have souls.
