On the early morning of November 16, 2011, we arrived at New York near the Atlantic.If you look from the Hudson River, crowded buildings on Manhattan Island are just like a wall into a whole.In the Wall Street, the narrow streets were arround by iron railing,dozens of tons of bumper block with iron casting were put in the junctions, dozens of police guarded every meters because some American people held a rally to protest the Wall Street financial selfish greed in the first day before we reached, more than 250 people were caught by the police, in order to prevent riots, Wall Street increased police.
In Fifth Avenue, various famous window become indispensable culture for the tourists,people go there shopping. The most worth seeing is the numerous museums along the avenue. From 42 street to the North until 110 street, there are twenty different size museums or so on both sides of Fifth Avenue: Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, Guggenheim Museum of art, the Museum of modern art, American Crafts Museum, television and Radio Museum, New York Museum, one after the other, let a person as the acme of perfection. In the north of Metropolitan Museum of Art Museum, is dense, known as museum street.
New York museums, concert halls and theatres show the elegant culture of the United States. Metropolitan Museum of art is one of the representatives of the museums of the United states.The Metropolitan Museum of Art's earliest roots date back to 1866 in Paris, France, when a group of Americans agreed to create a "national institution and gallery of art" to bring art and art education to the American people.On April 13, 1870, The Metropolitan Museum of Art was incorporated, opening to the public in the Dodworth Building at 681 Fifth Avenue.On March 30, 1880, after a brief move to the Douglas Mansion at 128 West 14th Street, the Museum opened to the public at its current site on Fifth Avenue and 82nd Street,is one of the four major museums in the world. so far, the Museum is two-million-square-foot building houses, over two million objects from prehistoric times is there, tens of thousands of which are on view at any given time.
American Museum of Natural History was built in 1869,is one of the best museums of New York to the west of the Central Park,is focused on collecting the continents mammal on biology,as well as anthropology collections.In New York there are other museums belong to high cultural Museum: Brooklyn Museum, The Frick Collection, Museum of the American Indian, Ellis Island Immigration Museum and so on.
Broadway is a label of culture, on behalf of new culture which the Europeans created from the European classical tradition culture after they came to the new world, American plays and musicals represent it's main culture.in the past day,European opera was to reflect Royal and noble life, but in America,there are large number of workers more in need of public entertainment, so new American music and soap opera for the purpose of puiblic entertainment is emerged as the times require, typically American. It is across North and South of Manhattan, where the main theater on West 42 street and West 48 street in this area. The first theatre was founded in 1750, now there are above 39 theater which has a seating capacity of 500 people,when in the evening, the area very lively, the large,rich and colorful repertoire advertising display on both sides of the road, is attracting people's attention firmly.
The Window of the World's Culture
In the afternoon,we came to United Nations Headquarters, a complex in New York City. The complex has served as the official headquarters of the United Nations since its completion in 1952. It's 17 acres (69,000 m2) of land .An American donate it ,now it's owned by members of the United Nations, not the territory of the United States .It is located in the Turtle Bay neighborhood of Manhattan, on spacious grounds overlooking the East River. Its borders are First Avenue on the west, East 42nd Street to the south, East 48th Street on the north and the East River to the east.Just inside the perimeter fence of the complex stands a line of flagpoles where the flags of all 193 UN member states, plus the U.N. flag, are flown in English alphabetical order.
The Headquarters consist of four main buildings: the General Assembly building, the Conference Building, the 39-floor Secretariat building, and the Dag Hammarskjold Library, which was added in 1961.The Secretariat building is the main building, 153.9 meters tall, to be known as the" glass palace"for it's large glass facade.The General Assembly building holds the General Assembly Hall which has a seating capacity of 1,800. At 165 ft (50 m) long by 115 ft (35 m) wide, it is the largest room in the complex.The complex is also notable for its gardens and outdoor sculptures. Iconic sculptures include the "Knotted Gun," a statue of a Colt Python revolver with its barrel tied in a knot, which was a gift from the Luxembourg government.
It's free to visit the United Nations, but you should save your luggage, handbags and other things that you take, then pass through the"security check gate"waiting for checking wether the body has metal objects or not. when we went into Headquarters of the United Nations , there was an exhibition of African architectural culture, we appreciated brilliant history of architectural culture of African countries. countless cultural show is held in United Nations Headquarters every year, it has become the window of cultural display. In 2004,it held a relevant aboriginal art exhibition in the United Nations building lobby ;in August 2006, the United Nations held an exhibition of classic picture of the UNHCR; in February 2008, the Persian treasure -- World Heritage of Iran was showed for 13 days;in January 2009, China exhibition: exhibition of Oracle calligraphy and" beautiful Jiangsu " photos, exhibited a total of 14 Oracle calligraphy rubbings, 60 pieces of works as well as 100" beautiful Jiangsu" picture;last April, the second session of Chinese day held in United Nations Headquarters.The exhibitions opened a window of understanding of the world culture for the diplomats,staffs of United Nations and visitors from all over the world.
The New York Times Square
In the evening, we came to Times Square,it's busy and noisy, bustling and dark, like a raging torrents, capture the heart of every visitor heart. It is the modern representative of American culture, generat a variety of fashionable things, and was imitated by people around the world, it's the forefront of the world's fashion. Around the Times Square the stores sell various accessories, electronic products, clothing and supplies, act the world’s leading” role.Large advertising on the buildings wall Around Times Square are reflected modern American culture , at the same time it represent world-class level of the plane advertisement design. New year's Eve, people in New York are gathered here to greet the New Year bell.
New York Times is a daily newspaper published in the United States of New York, has a considerable influence, is one of world famous newspaper, one of the senior and serious newspaper,as well as a good credibility and authority newspaper of the United States long since it founded in September 18, 1851 , publish by " New York Times" Publishing Company in New York. "New York Times" formerly known as the" New York Daily ", the name now is used from September 14, 1857. In 1969 ,it became a joint-stock company as large newspaper group which owned a number of American newspapers, magazines, television, radio and foreign joint venture from a family business. It's news has its one's own knack in, and won the Pulitzer prize 54 times.
"New York Times" is not only to create a world-class media, but also promote the development of the larger culture square -- Times square. The square was originally called " Longacre square", also known as "the crossroads of the world", early in the establishment of the" New York Times" headquarters building, it's well-known for " dropping of the ball". In December 1904, for the first time in Times Square people held the New Year Carnival activities,light up the colorful fireworks on new year Eve, there are over a hundred of thousands all over the world gather here to spend sleepless nights every new year since then. On December 31, 1999 about 2000000 people came here to wait for the coming millennium.
