A tax-free zone for Menggong jade is scheduled to be established in Yunnan.

A memo on cooperation between Thailand and Yunnan on jewelry industry is signed yesterday (January 3) between Yunnan Gem & Jewelry Association and Thailand Jewelry Association.

Cooperation on jewelry enterprises, trades, investment, economy and science are expected to be reinforced. Seminars, academic conferences and technicians’ exchanges will be held.

Chen Xin (陈昕), secretary-general of Yunnan Gem & Jewelry Association, introduced that the memo will help make up Yunnan’s colored gemstone. The processing industry in Thailand ranks top on the world, thus professional Thai technicians will be invited to Yunnan for training of jewelry processing.

Huang Rufa (黄如发), chairman of Jewelry Association in Thailand, said that there are 1.2 million people engaged in jewelry industry in Thailand. This cooperation will enhance the bilateral developments in jewelry industry and tourism.
